It is European Languages Day on the 26th September so to celebrate, year 4 took part in some activities. This day is a brilliant opportunity for children to learn about the importance of learning different languages, how they can do so and what languages different countries speak. The children started of labelling the different countries in Europe using atlases. They, then, created a virtual diary poster to showcase a European country and the language they speak. Using iPads, they researched about the language, culture and key facts on their chosen country. To finish off, they wrote why they think learning languages is important to them. We had some great exploring! 

This week, year 4 have had a brilliant start to all their topics! The children started our new topic of 'Electricty' in science and had a look at exploring key vocabulary associated with it. The children enjoyed using their knowledge organisers to learn these key words. They, also, explored different electrical appliances sorting them into items that use 'mains power' or 'batteries'. Keep up the hard work! 

Year 4 have had a busy week! In science, the children created different circuits to make predictions on whether the circuits will work or not based on the components. In Art, they explored different sculpting techniques to practise the skills needed to make their Greek Theatre Masks. Once they practised techniques like rolling into a snake, rolling into a ball and pinching, they then created a mask adding details to it. Some great prototypes! 

Year 4 have had a busy week! For our skills week in literacy, the children were learning about complex sentences and how to edit and uplevel their work. They used their creativity to come up with some brilliant ideas and ensured they used the correct conjunction for their complex sentence. Year 4 were great at uplevelling their work to improve a given passage including appropriate adjectives and fronted adverbials. Keep it up! 

Year 4 have returned with fantastic energy and enthusiasm!

Over our first two days, the children have settled into their classroom, reconnected with friends and made a brilliant start to the year. We have enjoyed getting to know one another and preparing for all of the exciting learning ahead.
