In science this week, we explored the pathway that food takes in our bodies, from 'the time that we eat to the time that we excrete'. We demonstrated this through using a clear plastic bag, crushed biscuits, orange juice and a pair of tights to represent the many organs that function as part of the digestive system. It was a memorable yet slightly stomach-churning lesson!

As part of Black History Month, we had a great opportunity to play the djembe drums and learn some basic rhythms as part of a workshop. We managed to create polyrhythms as a class using all 3 of the major notes: slap, bass and tone.

Year 6 have been busy stepping into the shoes of journalists this week! As part of their history learning, they have written newspaper reports on the Viking raid at Lindisfarne in 793AD. The children worked hard to capture the drama of the event, using eye-catching headlines, gripping introductions, and powerful eyewitness accounts. Their reports show a fantastic balance of historical knowledge and imaginative flair – well done, Year 6!

This week it was lovely to see the children learning about Charles Richard Drew during Black History Month. He made an important discovery about how to store and use blood safely, which has helped save many lives. The children have enjoyed finding out about his achievements and how his work has made a difference in the world.

Year 6 enjoyed celebrating European Day of Languages by creating “unity hands.” Each child decorated a hand with words and pictures that represent who they are- their interests, talents, cultures, and personalities. We then brought the hands together to make a display that shows the strength and beauty of our class community.

After a brilliant first week, we introduced our science topic 'Animals including Humans' by playing a game of 'flip-it'. We had a lots of fun matching organs to their functions in order to learn more about the human body before we dive deep into the circulatory system.
