Welcome to Year 2
Welcome to Year 2, we have two classes which are 2B and 2K. Our PE days are Monday and Wednesday, children should come to school in PE kit on those days. Spellings are given out on a Monday and tested on a Friday and homework and reading books are sent home on a Thursday and should be handed in on a Monday. If you have any questions about the homework, please speak to your child's teacher on a Friday.

This week in Maths, we started using the expanded column method to add 2-digit numbers.
In Literacy, we looked at poetry and wrote our own poem.
In Music we have started using a recorder to learn the song hands, feet heart.

This week we have been focusing on using adjectives when describing a character.
In Maths, we have been adding and subtracting one digit and two-digit numbers. We have been using different manipulatives to count correctly.
We also had Mental Health week this week. We discussed emotions and feelings, and why looking after our Mental Health is important. We created a hope tree to show how what we want to achieve in the future.

This week Year 2 had there parent workshop.
A big thank you to all our Year 2 parents and carers who joined us for our History Parent Workshop. It was wonderful to share how our children explore the past through engaging activities, and we appreciate your continued support with their learning.

This week in Maths, we have started to partition 2-digit numbers into tens and ones.
In Literacy, we have been working on using punctuation correctly and using conjunctions in sentences.
We started our Art topic, painting. The children used colour mixing to create secondary colours and painted a colour wheel.

This week, our Year 1, Year 2 and Year 3 pupils took part in an exciting African dance workshop in honour of Black History Month.
The children had the opportunity to explore African dance, rhythm and movement, experiencing a vibrant and engaging way to celebrate African culture and heritage. They enthusiastically joined in with the activities, developing their coordination, confidence and appreciation of different cultural traditions.

This week in Maths the children have been focusing on their number bonds to 10 and 20 using their understanding of fact families to help them answer questions related to what we have been learning in maths. In Litercay the children have written a setting description using a range of adjectives, ENP'S, 5 senses, prepositions and punctuation.
In science we have been focusing on different materials and their uses. They went around the school and outside to find how different materials have different uses such as wood is found on trees as bark which can be used as a home, whereas in school wood is turned into paper for children to write on.

This week in Maths the children have been focusing on partitioning two digit numbers in different ways using a number of materials such as Numicon, Part Whole Models and Base 10. In Literacy they have been looking at writing exclamation sentences that start with 'How' and 'What' and end with an exclamation mark.
In History we have been looking at our key vocabulary for our Great Fire Of London topic. The children have cut of key definitions and have had to match the correctly to the words.

It has been wonderful to welcome Year 2 back to school!
The children have settled in brilliantly, explored their new classroom and begun getting to know their new routines. They have shown kindness, confidence and a great attitude towards learning during our first two days.
We are excited for all the fun and learning that lies ahead this year.
