Welcome to Reception

We are 2 classes in one unit. The classes are F2K and F2G. We follow the EYFS curriculum and use Tapestry to share achievements with parents. We also follow the RWI scheme to teach phonics. You can access Tapestry using your browser or you can download the app to your phone or tablet.  If you have any difficulties accessing this account please speak to us. Please ensure your child brings their book bag every day. Homework is given out every Thursday and should be handed in on Monday. Reading diaries are checked and books are changed every Friday.

Our PE day is every Friday, children should come to school in PE kit on those days.

This week in Reception, as part of Black History week,  we have been exploring Africa and African culture. We looked at animals, land, weather and houses. We talked about the differences with houses in England compared to village houses in Africa. We talked about how the hot weather means the houses need to be kept cool by using straw and sticks.  We re-created a village house by selecting different appropriate materials. In Literacy, we read a story called Lila and the secret of the rain. The children enjoyed discussing the story and writing initial sounds to match pictures from the story. In Numeracy, we worked well taking part in lots of counting and number recognition activities. Well done Reception!

This week has been fun exploring more about how unique and special we all are. We have been engaging in lots of discussion about how it's great to be different and to like different things.

We made an ' I am special' mirror so we can really appreciate how different we all are. Well done Reception.

This week in Reception we have been continuing to settle into the classroom environment. We have taken part in counting and name writing activities. The first story we explored was 'Rainbow Fish'. We talked about how to be kind and ways to share just like how Rainbow Fish finally did share. We made our own Rainbow Fish and drew how we are kind and helpful. Well done Reception!

This week we have been busy exploring the story of Elmer. We have talked about how it's amazing to be different and to be proud of how different we all are.  We also read the story 'Colour Monster' to explore different feelings. Reception had their own Elmer Day where we added something colourful to our clothing. We all made our own patchwork elephant Elmer

This week we have continued to focus on how we can make friends by being kind to each other. We listened to a story called 'Have you filled a bucket today?' which explained that we can fill each others invisible buckets with happy thoughts and feelings by being kind to one another. The children then thought of different ways we can be kind to each other- "sharing" "playing together" "smiling" "holding hands" and "helping people". Well done Reception!

We have had lots of new experiences including eating lunch in the dinner hall. All the children have been brilliant! Well done!
